President

Gary P. Stokan is in his 10th year as president of the Atlanta Sports Council and the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

As president of the Atlanta Sports Council, Stokan is leading Atlanta 's efforts to brand the city as the Sports Capital of the World, drawing a range of world-caliber sporting events to metro Atlanta. Named the 2002, 2004 & 2006 Sports Commission of the Year, the Atlanta Sports Council has successfully bid for Super Bowls, NCAA Men's and Women's Final Fours, PGA tournaments and the MLB, NBA and NHL All-Star Games. Stokan has also helped bring the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament, the USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Championships and the U.S. Women's Figure Skating Championships to the metro Atlanta.

Stokan, ranked the 16th most influential sports figure in Georgia, is a nationally recognized speaker and serves on the Board of the Children's Healthcare Sports, Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau and is president of the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

Stokan also oversees all aspects of the Chick-fil-A Bowl, which generates an annual economic impact of $30-35 million for the city of Atlanta and state of Georgia. Stokan has worked closely with the Bowl's title sponsor, Chick-fil-A, to foster one of the closest bowl-sponsor relationships in the country. That relationship has helped the Bowl raise more than $2 million in charitable and scholarship contributions over that span, the most among all bowl games.

With 29 years of corporate sports management experience, Stokan has positioned the Chick-fil-A Bowl as one of nation's finest bowl games in many other respects. The Bowl has enjoyed eight straight sellouts, averaging more than 72,000 fans each year - making it the highest-attended non-Bowl Championship Series bowl game during that period. He also has created a "more than a game" philosophy by directing Bowl events year-round, including the Russell Athletic Shootout women's basketball doubleheader, the ACC-SEC Invitational golf tournament and the ACC-SEC Challenge flag football event.

A graduate of North Carolina State, Gary has been married to his high school sweetheart, Tia, for 28 years and they have two daughters, Christie, a graduate of the University of Tennessee and Michele, a graduate of the University of Georgia.
